Favignana Series

Jeff Martin's first solo exhibition in Melbourne was titled 'From Favignana' and was inspired by the fishermen of the island of Favignana, Sicily, Italy.

"These men have a strength and character that comes from the unique combination of a life time on the sea and being Sicilian"."My work in Favignana is simply personal observations of a foreign and unfamiliar society to which I feel a natural simpatico"

Jeff Martin visited this island in 1999, 2001 and 2003, recording images that resulted in a large body of work spanning from 1999 to early 2006.

The 2004 exhibition was held at Brightspace Gallery Melbourne, and was kindly sponsored by The Italian Institute of Culture Melbourne, Birra Morretti, Donnafugata Wines and Trumble Master Printers.
